June 28, 2016 - As Credo, the police dog, tried to stop the suspect from advancing toward officers, the suspect pulled out a knife. That is when one officer opened fire, hitting the suspect and the canine, the release said.
After the shooting, Credo’s handler, Officer Mike Parcells, carried his partner’s limp body from the scene. He placed him into a patrol car and drove him to a nearby hospital, where the dog was declared dead.
Parcells was visibly shaken and upset. He ripped off his helmet and hurled it away before burying his head in his hand.
Around 12:30 p.m., Long Beach police tweeted that the dog had died.

Een politiehond van de eenheid Amsterdam heeft deze week een officiële tevredenheidsbetuiging, oftewel oorkonde, in ontvangst genomen.
Het is de eerste keer dat een hond deze onderscheiding krijgt.
Politiehond Ayck mocht samen met zijn baasje Patrick op bezoek bij de Politie Amsterdam Zuid-Buitenveldert om zijn oorkonde in ontvangst te nemen.
Ayck spoorde op 3 mei een inbreker op in Amsterdam-Zuid die navigatiesystemen uit auto’s stal, zo schrijft de politie op Facebook.
Normaal gesproken komen alleen politiemensen die volgens hun leidinggevende een bijzondere prestatie hebben geleverd in aanmerking voor tevredenheidsbetuiging. Voor Ayck werd een uitzondering gemaakt, omdat hij erg goed speurwerk verrichtte en de dief zonder hem waarschijnlijk niet was gepakt.

Op het eerste gezicht dacht ik dat ook, maar het is gezichtsbedrog. Ze steunt gewoon op haar elleboog. Lijkt me trouwens ook bijna onmogelijk om de hond als steun te gebruiken. Moet die wel héél stil liggen en niet hijgen....
