Dr. Sophia Yin asked me to post this to ClickerSolutions. It would
be great if y'all could help her out. If you are on other dog lists
where this post would be appropriate, it would be great if you would
post it there.


DO YOU KNOW ANY DOGS THAT BARKS EXCESSIVELY?

This message is for those of you who own or know someone who owns a
dog that barks excessively.

I'm a veterinarian, applied animal behaviorist and lecturer in
domestic animal behavior at UC Davis and am performing behavior
research that explores the use of positive reinforcement to solve
³excessive barking² problems (reinforcing quiet). There are many
aspects to this research, one of which involves characterizing the
many "types" or "contexts" of excessive barking. In order to obtain
an overview of the barking problems, I and a colleague have
developed an "excessive barking" survey.

If you know of anyone who has a dog that they consider to bark
excessively, we would greatly appreciate your sending them to this
web site to take the questionnaire.

The deadline for filling out the survey is February 28th, 2004.
Those who answer the questionnaire will have the option to receive
information on the survey results and results of additional studies
once they results are published.

The goal of this project is to help design and implement studies
that will lead to publishable solutions involving positive
reinforcement. Please help us by strongly encouraging owners of
excessive barkers to take the survey and even to consider
participating in a research project.
